HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION

        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION memorializing Trooper Jason E. Beal and urging the Indiana Department of Transportation to rename a section of State Road 14 in his honor.

    Whereas, There is no greater sacrifice than to give your life in defense of another;

    Whereas, Trooper Jason E. Beal is one of those brave souls who have given their lives so that others may live;

    Whereas, Trooper Jason E. Beal was patrolling southeastern Kosciusko County one day in January 2000, when he stopped to assist a wrecker operator who was pulling a car out of a ditch;

    Whereas, As the two men were working, a passing vehicle slid on a patch of icy roadway, striking the wrecker and Trooper Beal;

    Whereas, Trooper Beal received severe head and internal injuries from which he died three days later;

    Whereas, The name of Trooper Beal and 17 other brave Indiana police officers were added to the Wall of Remembrance in Washington, D.C.;

    Whereas, It is indeed fitting that Trooper Jason E. Beal be further honored by renaming a section of State Road 14 in southeastern Kosciusko County the Jason E. Beal Memorial Highway; and

    Whereas, It is fitting that the memory of this brave man be further honored by renaming a section of Hoosier highway so that the memory of his brave and selfless act may live on forever in the minds of Hoosiers: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly wishes to express its gratitude to the family of Trooper Jason E. Beal for the care and concern Trooper Beal displayed in the daily performance of his job as a state trooper by renaming a section of State Road 14 in southeastern Kosciusko County the Jason E. Beal Memorial Highway.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the family of Trooper Jason E. Beal and the commissioner of the Indiana department of transportation.
