RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Rafat Abonour.

    Whereas, Dr. Rafat Abonour is the Associate Dean of Clinical Research and the Director of the Myeloma and Plasma Cell Diseases Program at Indiana University School of Medicine;

    Whereas, Dr. Abonour is an outstanding physician who is so much more to his seriously ill patients;

    Whereas, Dr. Abonour fights the battle against cancer alongside his patients and their families, often referring to them as "soldiers";

    Whereas, Dr. Abonour believes strongly in treating the patient and not simply the disease;

    Whereas, Dr. Abonour has a unique way of making each patient feel the care and compassion that all people deserve, especially in times of great illness;

    Whereas, In 2005, Dr. Abonour, a group of health care professionals, and patients established the "Miles for Myeloma" event to help raise money for myeloma research;

    Whereas, Each year Dr. Abonour donates his time and effort by running and cycling to various Indiana cities that represent places where patients travel from to receive care in Indianapolis;


    Whereas, The effort by Dr. Abonour and the group of patients and caregivers has generated over one million dollars for myeloma research; and

    Whereas, Dr. Abonour is more than a doctor; he is a patient advocate who approaches the care of each patient as an individual, addressing the person and not just the disease: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly acknowledges the many contributions made by Dr. Rafat Abonour and thanks him for the dedication, kindness, and compassion that he displays toward his patients and their families.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Dr. Rafat Abonour.
