Yellowwood State Forest and Morgan-Monroe State Forest may not be
developed in a manner that permits motorized access, sale of timber,
or commercial activity.

A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
natural and cultural resources.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SECTION 1. IC 14-23-4-7 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE
AS A
NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY
1, 2011]:
Sec. 7. (a) The general assembly finds:
(1) that there are certain unique areas in Indiana's state
forests that contain notable natural physical features in areas
that permit only nonmotorized access;
(2) that pristine forest areas provide unique recreational and
ecological benefits to the citizens of Indiana; and
(3) that these areas should be preserved for future
generations.
(b) Any area of Yellowwood State Forest and Morgan-Monroe
State Forest that:
(1) was designated, by the department or on maps prepared
by the department before January 1, 2010, as a backcountry
area; and
(2) is contained within an area bordered by:
(A) Low Gap Road on the west;
(B) Downey Road on the north;
(C) Bear Creek Road on the east; and
(D) North Shore Drive on the south;
may not be developed in a manner that permits motorized access,
sale of timber, or commercial activity.
