2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of William James "Bill" Howard of Pinegree | ||||||
4 | Grove, formerly of Aurora, who passed away on November 3, 2018; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Bill Howard was born in Princeton to William | ||||||
7 | Corbett and Rosella (Elmblad) Howard on March 20, 1942; his | ||||||
8 | parents were teachers and instilled in their sons the value of | ||||||
9 | an education; in high school, he lettered and earned honors in | ||||||
10 | football, basketball, and track; he set the school's shot-put | ||||||
11 | record and remains the seventh all-time leading scorer in | ||||||
12 | basketball at Princeton High School; he attended Princeton | ||||||
13 | University, where he was the captain of the 1963-1964 | ||||||
14 | basketball team that won the Ivy League championship and | ||||||
15 | advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen; he was also the starting | ||||||
16 | tight end and defensive end for the Tiger's football team that | ||||||
17 | also won the Ivy League championship his senior year; he | ||||||
18 | graduated from Princeton with a degree in history in 1964; he | ||||||
19 | then returned to Illinois and attended the University of | ||||||
20 | Chicago business school; and

21 | WHEREAS, Bill Howard served as the CFO of the Barber Greene | ||||||
22 | Company in Aurora and helped the company become the leading | ||||||
23 | global manufacturer of road pavers, conveyors, and other |

1 | construction equipment; he then worked as the CFO of Railcar | ||||||
2 | Specialties and finished his career as a business consultant in | ||||||
3 | accounting, tax, and finance; and

4 | WHEREAS, Bill Howard was an avid traveler, gardener, and | ||||||
5 | bibliophile; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Bill Howard was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
7 | and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Bill Howard is survived by his wife of 50 years, | ||||||
9 | Jo; his children, Sean Howard, Seth Howard, and Holly (Ryan | ||||||
10 | Page) Howard; his brothers, Bob, Corby (Kathy), Tim (Patty), | ||||||
11 | and James (Sue) Howard; and his many cousins, nieces, and | ||||||
12 | nephews; therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
15 | William James "Bill" Howard and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
16 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
17 | it further
