SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of John C. Wood of Northbrook, who passed
away on October 27, 2018; and
WHEREAS, John Wood was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on June
9, 1920; he graduated from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer,
where he earned a degree in accounting; and
WHEREAS, John Wood retired from the Allstate Insurance
Company as Assistant Controller in 1981 after 31 years of
service; prior to working at Allstate, he was employed by
Arthur Anderson in the Chicago Office; and
WHEREAS, John Wood was active in many civic and charitable
activities; he was a member of the Northbrook Chamber of
Commerce, where he served as a member of the board of
directors; he was also a board member and served as treasurer
of the North Suburban YMCA for over 25 years; he participated
in the fund drive for the YMCA building and was president for
one year; he was selected by the Northbrook Village President
as the Northbrook Senior Citizen of the Year in 1996; he was a
member of the American Cancer Society and served as chairman of
the Northbrook Cancer Society golf outing for three years; for
ten years, he organized an intergenerational golf tournament

that featured Glenbrook North High School's varsity golf team
and the senior citizens of Northbrook; he also served two terms
as commissioner and one year as president of the Northbrook
Park District; and
WHEREAS, John Wood was a member of Our Lady of the Brook
Catholic Church and also served as their business manager for
15 years; in his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, traveling, and
investing; and
WHEREAS, John Wood was the beloved husband of 60 years of
the late Mae (Carton) Wood, the loving father of John S.
(Cynthia) Wood, the cherished grandfather of Annie and Michael
Wood, the dear brother of Jan (the late John) Schlereth and
Joseph (Madalyn) Wood, and the fond uncle of many nieces and
nephews; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
John C. Wood and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of John Wood as an expression of our
deepest sympathy.
