| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John C. Wood of Northbrook, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on October 27, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Wood was born in Rensselaer, Indiana on June | ||||||
6 | 9, 1920; he graduated from St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, | ||||||
7 | where he earned a degree in accounting; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, John Wood retired from the Allstate Insurance | ||||||
9 | Company as Assistant Controller in 1981 after 31 years of | ||||||
10 | service; prior to working at Allstate, he was employed by | ||||||
11 | Arthur Anderson in the Chicago Office; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John Wood was active in many civic and charitable | ||||||
13 | activities; he was a member of the Northbrook Chamber of | ||||||
14 | Commerce, where he served as a member of the board of | ||||||
15 | directors; he was also a board member and served as treasurer | ||||||
16 | of the North Suburban YMCA for over 25 years; he participated | ||||||
17 | in the fund drive for the YMCA building and was president for | ||||||
18 | one year; he was selected by the Northbrook Village President | ||||||
19 | as the Northbrook Senior Citizen of the Year in 1996; he was a | ||||||
20 | member of the American Cancer Society and served as chairman of | ||||||
21 | the Northbrook Cancer Society golf outing for three years; for | ||||||
22 | ten years, he organized an intergenerational golf tournament |

1 | that featured Glenbrook North High School's varsity golf team | ||||||
2 | and the senior citizens of Northbrook; he also served two terms | ||||||
3 | as commissioner and one year as president of the Northbrook | ||||||
4 | Park District; and

5 | WHEREAS, John Wood was a member of Our Lady of the Brook | ||||||
6 | Catholic Church and also served as their business manager for | ||||||
7 | 15 years; in his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, traveling, and | ||||||
8 | investing; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, John Wood was the beloved husband of 60 years of | ||||||
10 | the late Mae (Carton) Wood, the loving father of John S. | ||||||
11 | (Cynthia) Wood, the cherished grandfather of Annie and Michael | ||||||
12 | Wood, the dear brother of Jan (the late John) Schlereth and | ||||||
13 | Joseph (Madalyn) Wood, and the fond uncle of many nieces and | ||||||
14 | nephews; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
17 | John C. Wood and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
18 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of John Wood as an expression of our | ||||||
21 | deepest sympathy.
