1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Nancy Hadley Shapland of Champaign, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on October 24, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Nancy Shapland was born to Roy O. and Evelyn | ||||||
6 | Hadley on December 18, 1937; she attended Purdue University and | ||||||
7 | then moved to Champaign, where she worked at the Meyer Capel | ||||||
8 | Law Firm and met and later married George Shapland; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Nancy Shapland had a passion for music and piano; | ||||||
10 | she played piano for the Purdue Glee Club in college and later | ||||||
11 | was the pianist for many of the Junior League performances and | ||||||
12 | the Champaign Rotary Club; she had perfect pitch and could play | ||||||
13 | anything she heard; she was also known to frequently play | ||||||
14 | between sets of band performances; and

15 | WHEREAS, Nancy Shapland started showing dogs in the early | ||||||
16 | 1970s, starting with golden retrievers and then bichon frises; | ||||||
17 | she finished championships with over 17 dogs; she was an | ||||||
18 | American Kennel Club judge and was a dedicated and respected | ||||||
19 | member of the Bichon Frise Club of America, where she served on | ||||||
20 | many committees, held the office of treasurer, and served as | ||||||
21 | president for eight years; and

1 | WHEREAS, Nancy Shapland loved sports, especially her | ||||||
2 | children's sporting activities in high school, and was known to | ||||||
3 | "help" the referees call their games to such an extent that her | ||||||
4 | friends gave her a referee uniform shirt of her own to wear to | ||||||
5 | high school games; she also once received a "technical foul" | ||||||
6 | from a referee at an Illinois basketball game while expressing | ||||||
7 | her dislike for a call during a time out; her bridge club was | ||||||
8 | also a very special part of her life for over 50 years; and

9 | WHEREAS, Nancy Shapland was preceded in death by her | ||||||
10 | parents; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Nancy Shapland is survived by her husband of 55 | ||||||
12 | years, George; her children, Charlie (Julie) Shapland and his | ||||||
13 | children, Nick and Hadley, Mark Shapland and his children, Dan, | ||||||
14 | John, and Drew, and their mother, Debby, and Laura (Brent | ||||||
15 | Koester) Shapland and her daughter, Chloe; and Nancy's sister, | ||||||
16 | Sarah Hadley; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Nancy Hadley Shapland and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
21 | further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
