SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charlene Mary (Cooper) Hendrickson, who
4passed away on September 11, 2018; and
5 WHEREAS, Charlene Hendrickson was born in Waukegan to
6Charles and Mary (Teeling) Cooper on January 8, 1933; she
7graduated from Holy Child Catholic High School in 1951; she
8earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the College of
9St. Teresa in 1955; she later married Richard Hendrickson; and
10 WHEREAS, Charlene Hendrickson began her career teaching
11Anatomy, Physiology, and Neurology at St. Therese Hospital in
12Waukegan; she then accepted a position as a staff nurse at the
13county hospital; she missed teaching and briefly returned to
14St. Therese Hospital before accepting a position as in-service
15director at a long-term care facility; she then transitioned to
16the Lake County Health Department, Health Facilities Division
17as an institutional nurse consultant; here, she found a true
18passion for helping children; she worked with the Illinois
19Department of Children and Family services for 20 years; and
20 WHEREAS, For her advocacy, Charlene Hendrickson received
21the Illinois Governor's Award in 1988; after her retirement,
22she continued to volunteer in the community and at her church,

1St. Anastasia in Waukegan; at church, she was a Eucharistic
2Minister of Communion, a CCD teacher, and also helped fill
3grocery bags for the food pantry; she received the Woman of the
4Year Award from the Archdiocese of Chicago for her volunteer
5work; she was a member of the Education Committee of the Child
6Care Coalition, a board member and chairperson for the annual
7senior recognition luncheon for the Lake County Council for
8Seniors, and an advisory board member for the YWCA Child Care
9Resource and Referral Program; she led by example and modeled
10unconditional love, honesty, and inner strength; she cherished
11her family; and
12 WHEREAS, Charlene Hendrickson was preceded in death by her
13husband of 60 years, Richard; her parents; her sisters, Anna
14Mae Kovacek and LaRaine Vanderpool; her daughter-in-law, Nancy
15Hendrickson; and her daughter, Susan Hendrickson; and
16 WHEREAS, Charlene Hendrickson is survived by her children,
17Susan Hendrickson, Thomas (Karen) Hendrickson, Jean (Jerry)
18Zegar, Brian Hendrickson, David (Nancy) Hendrickson, Kay (Bob)
19Walker, and Carol (Tim) Radosevich; her grandchildren, Jason
20and Kyle Radosevich, Tommy, Mary, and Trevor Hendrickson,
21Christopher, Jonathan, and Emily Zegar, Kelly Besaw, Maddie and
22Abby Hendrickson, Elizabeth Kroeger, Hannah Walker, Alyssa,
23Jillian, Michael and Alec Radosevich; her ten
24great-grandchildren; and her beloved nieces and nephews;

1therefore, be it
2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Charlene Mary (Cooper) Hendrickson and extend our sincere
5condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
6her; and be it further
7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Charlene Hendrickson as an
9expression of our deepest sympathy.
