SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, September is designated National Suicide
3Prevention Awareness Month, a time to come together with
4collective passion and strength around a difficult topic, to
5raise awareness, and to promote resources regarding suicide
6prevention; and
7 WHEREAS, Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone regardless of
8age, gender, or background, and although common, should not be
9considered normal and often indicate more serious issues;
10suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people;
11and
12 WHEREAS, Local and national organizations, like Suicide
13Prevention Services, are working diligently every day to
14address an issue that many still refuse to discuss in public;
15communities have an important role to play in supporting those
16who are vulnerable; and
17 WHEREAS, Everyone is encouraged to take the time to inquire
18as to the wellbeing of their family, friends, and neighbors and
19to genuinely convey their appreciation for their existence by
20any gesture they deem appropriate; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the month of
2September 2018 as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
3in the State of Illinois; and be it further
4 RESOLVED, That we encourage individuals, communities, and
5organizations throughout the State of Illinois to share suicide
6prevention awareness strategies and to ensure that
7individuals, friends, and families have access to resources
8they need to discuss suicide prevention.
