1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, September is designated National Suicide | ||||||
3 | Prevention Awareness Month, a time to come together with | ||||||
4 | collective passion and strength around a difficult topic, to | ||||||
5 | raise awareness, and to promote resources regarding suicide | ||||||
6 | prevention; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone regardless of | ||||||
8 | age, gender, or background, and although common, should not be | ||||||
9 | considered normal and often indicate more serious issues; | ||||||
10 | suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Local and national organizations, like Suicide | ||||||
13 | Prevention Services, are working diligently every day to | ||||||
14 | address an issue that many still refuse to discuss in public; | ||||||
15 | communities have an important role to play in supporting those | ||||||
16 | who are vulnerable; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Everyone is encouraged to take the time to inquire | ||||||
18 | as to the wellbeing of their family, friends, and neighbors and | ||||||
19 | to genuinely convey their appreciation for their existence by | ||||||
20 | any gesture they deem appropriate; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL |

1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the month of | ||||||
2 | September 2018 as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month | ||||||
3 | in the State of Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, That we encourage individuals, communities, and | ||||||
5 | organizations throughout the State of Illinois to share suicide | ||||||
6 | prevention awareness strategies and to ensure that | ||||||
7 | individuals, friends, and families have access to resources | ||||||
8 | they need to discuss suicide prevention.
