SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Wilson Frost of Chicago, who passed away
on May 5, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Wilson Frost was born in Cairo on December 27,
1925; he earned his bachelor's degree from Fisk University in
1950; he then attended Chicago-Kent College of Law and earned
his Juris Doctor in 1958; he later studied at DePaul
University's Lawyer's Institute; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Fisk, Wilson Frost was hired
by the Postal Transportation Service as a clerk, where he
remained until 1952; he then left to work as a statistician at
Provident Hospital; after earning his law degree, he joined the
firm of Frost, Sherard, Howse & Coleman, where he continued on
as a partner until 1973; that year, he left to form Meyer &
Frost, which later became Frost & Greenblatt; he remained there
until his retirement in 1998; and
WHEREAS, Wilson Frost became active in Chicago politics in
1967 when he was elected alderman of the 21st Ward; in 1971, he
was elected alderman of the 34th Ward, and in 1976, he was
serving as the president pro tem of the City Council when
longtime mayor Richard J. Daley passed away; he pointed out

that under existing law, he was to become the new mayor; the
other aldermen disagreed, and after the course of several
meetings, he was kept out of the mayor's seat and instead named
chairman of the Finance Committee of the City Council;
following that incident, he continued to serve the city and
retired as the commissioner of the Cook County Board of Tax
Appeals in 1998; and
WHEREAS, During his many years of public service, Wilson
Frost was honored by many organizations, including the Original
Forty Club, which awarded him the Man of the Year Award in 1974
and the Illinois House of Representatives, which upon his
retirement, issued a resolution praising his work; he also
actively served several organizations, including the John
Marshall School of Law, Mercy Hospital Medical Center, and the
City Club of Chicago, where he was vice president; and
WHEREAS, Wilson Frost and his wife had four children;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Wilson Frost and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

deepest sympathy.
