SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Graeme K. Carnegie of Oak Park, who
4passed away on July 20, 2014; and
5 WHEREAS, Graeme Carnegie was born on March 15, 1974 in
6Guildford, England; his parents were Kenneth J. Carnegie and
7Gillian E. Carnegie; and
8 WHEREAS, Graeme Carnegie grew up in Aberdeen, Scotland with
9his parents; his sister, Rachael; his grandparents, Betty and
10Nicol Carnegie; and his Auntie Hazel; at the age of 9, he moved
11with his parents and sister to Oundle, England, where he
12attended school; and
13 WHEREAS, Graeme Carnegie graduated in 1996 from Swansea
14University in Wales with a degree in biochemistry; he went on
15to obtain a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Dundee
16in Scotland in 2002; and
17 WHEREAS, In 2001, Graeme Carnegie moved to Portland, Oregon
18to pursue his career in medical research; there, he met his
19wife, Andrea, and they enjoyed and embraced the local culture;
20in 2009, he accepted an assistant professor position at the
21University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine; he and

1his wife then moved to Oak Park and welcomed their first
2daughter, Niamh, in June of 2011, shortly followed by their
3second daughter, Ava, in October of 2012; and
4 WHEREAS, Graeme Carnegie enjoyed surfing, snowboarding,
5playing soccer and tennis, and playing the drums in local
6bands; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
9family and friends, mourn the passing of Graeme K. Carnegie;
10and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Graeme Carnegie as an expression of
13our sympathy.
