| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Mary Ann Cahill of McHenry, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on October 26, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Mary Cahill was born in Chicago on June 10, 1927 | ||||||
6 | to John William and Olivia (nee Spoerlein) Phalen; she married | ||||||
7 | Charles "Chuck" Cahill on June 5, 1948 in Chicago and they | ||||||
8 | settled in Libertyville; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, In 1956, Mary Cahill was a founding member of La | ||||||
10 | Leche League International, which grew from 7 mothers in | ||||||
11 | Franklin Park to a worldwide organization dedicated to "good | ||||||
12 | mothering through breastfeeding"; she wrote the first manual | ||||||
13 | for the League after the members decided they could no longer | ||||||
14 | keep up with the demand for information by writing individual | ||||||
15 | letters back to the many mothers asking for help; she was the | ||||||
16 | author of "Seven Voices, One Dream", an oral history of the | ||||||
17 | League in the words of the founders; she also wrote "The Heart | ||||||
18 | Has Its Own Reasons" - mothering wisdom for the 1980's - and | ||||||
19 | numerous articles; she was an emeritus member of the Board of | ||||||
20 | Directors of the League; and

21 | WHEREAS, Mary Cahill, along with her husband, were leaders | ||||||
22 | in the Christian Family Movement at St. Joseph Catholic Church |

1 | in Libertyville, and she helped establish the Society of St. | ||||||
2 | Vincent de Paul at The Church of Holy Apostles in McHenry; on | ||||||
3 | September 14, 2014, she was recognized as a Catholic Woman of | ||||||
4 | Inspiration by the McHenry Deanery Council of Catholic Women; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Mary Cahill was preceded in death by her husband, | ||||||
7 | Charles; her parents; and her 2 brothers, Francis and William; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Mary Cahill is survived by a very special | ||||||
10 | sister-in-law, Ann Phalen; her children, Robert (Julie) | ||||||
11 | Cahill, Elizabeth (Jerry) Rickert, Timothy Cahill, Teresa | ||||||
12 | (Dean) Braun, Mary (Bob) Sislow, Joseph (Martha) Cahill, | ||||||
13 | Margaret (Dennis) Fisk, Charlene "Charlie" (Bob) DeVries, | ||||||
14 | Frances Cahill, and Janet Buhrman (Rich Osnoss), who lived with | ||||||
15 | the family during her elementary years and has been at the | ||||||
16 | family table ever since; her 20 grandchildren; and her 15 | ||||||
17 | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Mary Ann Cahill, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
21 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
22 | further
