SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of George A. Leoni of Melrose Park; and
4 WHEREAS, George Leoni was a veteran of the United States
5Army and a recipient of the Purple Heart; and
6 WHEREAS, George Leoni was the Executive Director of the
7Veterans Park District for 40 years; he was also Proviso
8Township's Mental Health Commissioner, a board member of the
9Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans, Chairman of the
10Italo-American National Union, and on the Board of Directors
11for the Villa Scalabrini Retirement Center; he also worked with
12PARC (Proviso Association for Retarded Children), now known as
13ASPIRE; and
14 WHEREAS, George Leoni was a member of the Illinois Park and
15Recreation Association, the Disabled American Veterans, the
16Veterans of Foreign Wars, the 33rd World War II Infantry
17Veteran Division, and the Illinois Fire and Police
18Commissioners Association, and was an honorary member of the
19Mickinzie-Vertuno Memorial Fraternal Order of Police Lodge
20#19; and
21 WHEREAS, George Leoni was a sponsor of the Melrose Park

1Little League and the Flames Hockey Team; and
2 WHEREAS, George Leoni was the dearly beloved husband of the
3late Lena (nee Petruzzi); the loving father of Georgia Buvak
4and Donna Peluso; the cherished Papa of Carlene (Ken) Greifelt,
5Michalene (James) Tjeerdema, Roberta (Christopher) Heintz, and
6George (Lauren) and Anthony Peluso; the loving Great Papa of
7Jona, Jimmy, Jake, Logan, Bowie, Blaise, and Nico; the dear
8brother of Ora (the late Tex) Simon, Madeline (the late Joe)
9Belline, the late Richard and Gemma Leoni, the late Vadie
10Autry, the late William Leoni, the late Velencia, the late
11Alberta and Donald Provenzano, and the late Anita Leoni; the
12loving companion of Madeline Pyka; and the fond uncle and
13friend of many; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16George A. Leoni, and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of George Leoni as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
