2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Douglas W. "Doug" Peterson of River | ||||||
4 | Forest, who passed away on November 24, 2017 at the age of 75; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Doug Peterson was born in Chicago on December 7, | ||||||
7 | 1941; he grew up on Olcott Avenue on the northwest side; his | ||||||
8 | neighbors remembered him as "funny and considerate to all of | ||||||
9 | the kids on the block"; he attended Immaculate Conception | ||||||
10 | Grammar School, Notre Dame High School, and earned a degree in | ||||||
11 | business administration from Marquette University in 1963; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Doug Peterson joined the Naval Reserve Officers' | ||||||
13 | Training Corps and upon graduation was commissioned as an | ||||||
14 | ensign; after serving active duty aboard the USS Washtenaw | ||||||
15 | County in Yokosuka, Japan for two years, he completed his naval | ||||||
16 | service with the rank of lieutenant; and

17 | WHEREAS, Doug Peterson returned to the Chicago area and | ||||||
18 | went to work for Allstate Insurance, first as an agent, and | ||||||
19 | later in the management program; in 1977, he joined CNA | ||||||
20 | Insurance as the Midwest Region Sales Manager; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Doug Peterson founded Peterson Insurance Agency |

1 | in 1982, which later became Peterson and Associates Insurance; | ||||||
2 | and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Doug Peterson was an active member of the St. | ||||||
4 | Giles Parish in Oak Park and the Forest Park Kiwanis Club; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Doug Peterson will be remembered for "crazy times" | ||||||
6 | at the place in Wauwatosa, his good humor, honesty, and genuine | ||||||
7 | care for others, as well as for being a man of tremendous faith | ||||||
8 | who faced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with calm and | ||||||
9 | grace; and

10 | WHEREAS, Doug Peterson was the beloved husband of Luanne | ||||||
11 | Peterson; the devoted father of Scott, Craig (Heather), Mary | ||||||
12 | (Kevin) Gibbons, and Anne Sullivan; the cherished grandfather | ||||||
13 | of Grace, Thomas, Matthew, Ryan, and Owen Peterson, Clare, | ||||||
14 | Patrick, Timothy, and Edmund Gibbons, and Joseph, Sean, and | ||||||
15 | Colin Sullivan; the fond brother of Diane (Richard) Fox, Susan | ||||||
16 | (Walter) Hutt, Gary (the late Janice) Peterson, Kathleen | ||||||
17 | (Richard) Kowalczyk, and the late David (Barbara) Peterson; the | ||||||
18 | dear brother-in-law of Mary Phillips and Margaret (the late | ||||||
19 | Tom) Kenny; and the fond uncle and friend to many; therefore, | ||||||
20 | be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

2 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
