SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Douglas W. "Doug" Peterson of River
4Forest, who passed away on November 24, 2017 at the age of 75;
5and
6 WHEREAS, Doug Peterson was born in Chicago on December 7,
71941; he grew up on Olcott Avenue on the northwest side; his
8neighbors remembered him as "funny and considerate to all of
9the kids on the block"; he attended Immaculate Conception
10Grammar School, Notre Dame High School, and earned a degree in
11business administration from Marquette University in 1963; and
12 WHEREAS, Doug Peterson joined the Naval Reserve Officers'
13Training Corps and upon graduation was commissioned as an
14ensign; after serving active duty aboard the USS Washtenaw
15County in Yokosuka, Japan for two years, he completed his naval
16service with the rank of lieutenant; and
17 WHEREAS, Doug Peterson returned to the Chicago area and
18went to work for Allstate Insurance, first as an agent, and
19later in the management program; in 1977, he joined CNA
20Insurance as the Midwest Region Sales Manager; and
21 WHEREAS, Doug Peterson founded Peterson Insurance Agency

1in 1982, which later became Peterson and Associates Insurance;
2and
3 WHEREAS, Doug Peterson was an active member of the St.
4Giles Parish in Oak Park and the Forest Park Kiwanis Club; and
5 WHEREAS, Doug Peterson will be remembered for "crazy times"
6at the place in Wauwatosa, his good humor, honesty, and genuine
7care for others, as well as for being a man of tremendous faith
8who faced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with calm and
9grace; and
10 WHEREAS, Doug Peterson was the beloved husband of Luanne
11Peterson; the devoted father of Scott, Craig (Heather), Mary
12(Kevin) Gibbons, and Anne Sullivan; the cherished grandfather
13of Grace, Thomas, Matthew, Ryan, and Owen Peterson, Clare,
14Patrick, Timothy, and Edmund Gibbons, and Joseph, Sean, and
15Colin Sullivan; the fond brother of Diane (Richard) Fox, Susan
16(Walter) Hutt, Gary (the late Janice) Peterson, Kathleen
17(Richard) Kowalczyk, and the late David (Barbara) Peterson; the
18dear brother-in-law of Mary Phillips and Margaret (the late
19Tom) Kenny; and the fond uncle and friend to many; therefore,
20be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

1Douglas W. "Doug" Peterson and extend our sincere condolences
2to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
3it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
