1		SENATE RESOLUTION
2		WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3		learn of the death of Jerome Samuel Johnson; and
4		WHEREAS, Jerome Johnson was born to Milton P. and Katherine
5		Goolsby Johnson on November 25, 1946; he attended Kozminski
6		Elementary School and Hyde Park High School; he served in the
7		United States Army in Vietnam, where he achieved the rank of
8		1st Lieutenant and served as commanding officer of his platoon;
9		his leadership was widely publicized by former United States
10		Senator and Secretary of Defense, Charles Hagel, who served
11		under Jerome; he earned two Silver Stars for his service; he
12		married Laura Meriweather on September 6, 1969; and
13		WHEREAS, Jerome Johnson retired from Commonwealth Edison
14		and embarked on a second career as a funeral director; and
15		WHEREAS, Jerome Johnson was affectionately known as
16		"Rome"; he was a part-time comedian, part-time biblical
17		scholar, part-time philosopher, and full-time man of leisure;
18		and
19		WHEREAS, Jerome Johnson was preceded in death by his
20		parents; his mother-in-love, Anna Ruth Meriweather; his
21		siblings, Milton Jr., Ronald/Jason, Joyce, Alice, Melvin,

1		Jerrel, and John; his nephew, David Heard, and his niece,
2		Katrice Johnson; and
3		WHEREAS, Jerome Johnson is survived by his wife, Laura; his
4		sons, Joel (Karla), Justin, and Joshua; his grandsons, Khalil
5		and Hasan; his siblings, Marla Jean, Marvin, Perry, Karen,
6		Janice Webb, and Jeffery; and numerous nieces, nephews,
7		cousins, extended family, friends, and colleagues; therefore,
8		be it
9		RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10		ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11		Jerome Samuel Johnson, and extend our sincere condolences to
12		his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13		further
14		RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15		presented to the family of Jerome Johnson as an expression of
16		our deepest sympathy.
