SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bernard "Bernie" Thieben of Chillicothe,
4who passed away on October 13, 2014; and
5 WHEREAS, Bernard Thieben was born on November 11, 1932 to
6H. Bernard and Margaretta (nee Mosher) Thieben; he married
7Beverly J. Buskirk on April 13, 1963 in Mossville; he served in
8the United States Army during the Korean War; and
9 WHEREAS, Bernard Thieben retired from Caterpillar after 37
10years; he was elected Supervisor of Medina Township and served
11the township community for 36 years; he owned an auto body shop
12for 12 years; and
13 WHEREAS, Bernard Thieben was past president of the Peoria
14County Township Officials Association; he was chairman of the
15Township Officials of Illinois Risk Management Association
16Board for 12 years and served on the Peoria County Republican
17Central Committee; and
18 WHEREAS, Bernard Thieben enjoyed writing poetry; he was an
19active member of Illinois Masonic Lodge 263 Ancient Free &
20Accepted Masons of Peoria, the Valley of Peoria Scottish Rite,
21and the Mohammed Shriners of Bartonville, and was a Past Patron

1of the Don Meyer Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of
2Peoria; he was also active in the Independent Order of Odd
3Fellows and the Chillicothe Lions Club; and
4 WHEREAS, Bernard Thieben was preceded in death by his
5parents; son, Ricky L. Thieben; and a sister, Adda Alexander;
6and
7 WHEREAS, Bernard Thieben is survived by his children,
8Denise Thieben, LeeAnn (Guy) Krulac, Paulette (Jim) Korte,
9James (Betsey) West, Scott L. West, and Bernard H. Thieben
10(Elizabeth McKeever); 18 grandchildren; 11
11great-grandchildren; a sister, Margie Turnow; a brother, Bob
12(Cindy) Thieben; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
13 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Bernard "Bernie" Thieben, and extend our sincere condolences to
16his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
17further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Bernard Thieben as an expression of
20our deepest sympathy.
