| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Judith "Jude" Garrett, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | February 23, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jude Garrett was born in Manjimup, Western | ||||||
6 | Australia to James and Mary Unsworth on April 9, 1932; the | ||||||
7 | Unsworth family was greatly affected by World War II; her | ||||||
8 | father became a Japanese prisoner of war and survived years of | ||||||
9 | torture and neglect only to die shortly after returning home; | ||||||
10 | after the war, she served in the Australian Citizen Military | ||||||
11 | Forces Nursing Core, where she earned the rank of sergeant; she | ||||||
12 | left Australia on a tour around the world in 1956; while in | ||||||
13 | Vancouver BC, she met Robert (Bob) Garrett, and they married on | ||||||
14 | July 6, 1957; and

15 | WHEREAS, Jude Garrett moved to Chicago to begin her life in | ||||||
16 | the United States with her husband's family while he finished | ||||||
17 | his tour in the Navy; In 1966, she, her husband, and their | ||||||
18 | three children then lived in Australia with the extended | ||||||
19 | Unsworth family; in 1972, they returned to the United States | ||||||
20 | and established their home in Mt. Prospect; and

21 | WHEREAS, Jude Garrett worked for AM Multigraphics and then | ||||||
22 | for Bang and Olufsen of America; and

1 | WHEREAS, In 2008, Jude Garrett was honored with the | ||||||
2 | Australian Defense Medal in recognition of her service; she was | ||||||
3 | a member of St. Emily's Catholic Church; she enjoyed reading, | ||||||
4 | writing letters, knitting, and crocheting; she went through | ||||||
5 | hundreds of skeins of yarn and produced many heirloom pieces | ||||||
6 | for her family; she was hardworking, diligent, ruggedly | ||||||
7 | independent, and patient; and

8 | WHEREAS, Jude Garrett was preceded in death by her husband, | ||||||
9 | Robert; her infant child, Mary; her son-in-law, Timothy | ||||||
10 | Cunningham; her parents; and her brothers, James and Peter | ||||||
11 | Unsworth; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Jude Garrett is survived by her children, Matthew | ||||||
13 | (Becky) Garrett, Loreen (Jeff) Letzter, and Lynette Garrett; | ||||||
14 | her grandchildren, Kaley (Joe), Tony (Angela), Jenna | ||||||
15 | (Michael), Robert, Andy, Claire (Tony), Gabrielle (Jonathan), | ||||||
16 | Kelsey, and Brian; and her great-grandchildren, Elise, Ava, and | ||||||
17 | Bentley; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Judith "Jude" Garrett and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
21 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
22 | further
