2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Rosemary Robinson Jackson Ph.D. of | ||||||
4 | Chicago, who passed away on February 7, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson was born on Chicago's West Side on | ||||||
6 | December 22, 1946; she received her Ph.D. from Loyola | ||||||
7 | University and a Master of Arts from both the National College | ||||||
8 | of Education and DePaul University; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson began her career as an English teacher | ||||||
10 | at her alma mater, John Marshall High School; she went on to | ||||||
11 | teach at Hyde Park High School, Kennedy-King College, and | ||||||
12 | DePaul University; she served as vice president for Educational | ||||||
13 | Media and Distance Learning at Kennedy-King from 2007 to 2010; | ||||||
14 | and

15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson was the vice chairman and chief | ||||||
16 | administrative officer at Chicago-based Central City | ||||||
17 | Productions, which she helped develop with her lifelong partner | ||||||
18 | and husband, Don Jackson; she served as Research Director and | ||||||
19 | Associate Producer of the Black College Quiz and the Hispanic | ||||||
20 | College Quiz - two nationally-syndicated television programs | ||||||
21 | developed by Central City Productions; and

1 | WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson remained active in her local community | ||||||
2 | and was committed to public service through her sorority, Delta | ||||||
3 | Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for which she chaired several | ||||||
4 | committees during her 50-year tenure as an active member, and | ||||||
5 | which her daughter, Rhonda, is an active member today; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson's professional memberships included | ||||||
7 | the National Council of Teachers of English, the National | ||||||
8 | Association for Developmental Education, the Association for | ||||||
9 | the Study of African American Life and History (SAALH), and Phi | ||||||
10 | Beta Kappa; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson was an avid sports fan; she loved | ||||||
12 | tennis, basketball, baseball, and football; she was also a | ||||||
13 | devotee of the arts and all types of dancing including Bopping, | ||||||
14 | Stepping, and Line Dancing; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Jackson is survived by her beloved husband of | ||||||
16 | 52 years, Don; her mother, Rosalie Gray; her siblings, Carrie | ||||||
17 | Murphy, Erma Gray Davis (Dan), and Calvin Gray (Ruth); her | ||||||
18 | daughter, Rhonda Jackson Sams (Ray); her son, Baba Dainja; her | ||||||
19 | grandchildren, Donovan, Dain, and Riley Rose; and numerous | ||||||
20 | nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Rosemary Robinson Jackson Ph.D., and extend our sincere | ||||||
2 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
3 | her; and be it further

5 | presented to the family of Dr. Jackson as an expression of our | ||||||
