1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Robert Dean Stuart of Edwardsville, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on January 17, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bob Stuart was born in Granite City to James and | ||||||
6 | Verna Diehle Stuart on April 10, 1939; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | Granite City High School in 1957; he then attended Missouri | ||||||
8 | Valley College where he was a member of the Sigma Nu | ||||||
9 | fraternity, lettered in basketball and golf, and graduated in | ||||||
10 | 1961; he earned a master's degree in education administration | ||||||
11 | from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; he married | ||||||
12 | Sandra Stephens at the Van Brunt Presbyterian Church in Kansas | ||||||
13 | City, Missouri on June 25, 1961; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Bob Stuart had a long and distinguished career | ||||||
15 | with the Edwardsville School District, which he began as a | ||||||
16 | science teacher and coach for Edwardsville Junior High School | ||||||
17 | in 1961; he was then named Assistant Principal of the junior | ||||||
18 | high and went on to be the Principal of Glen Carbon Elementary | ||||||
19 | School; in 1983, he was promoted to Director of Instruction for | ||||||
20 | the district and then named Assistant Superintendent in Charge | ||||||
21 | of Curriculum; in 1991, he was named Superintendent of Schools | ||||||
22 | and remained in that position until he retired in 1996; he | ||||||
23 | considered the passing of the referendum and overseeing the |

1 | construction of the new high school to be the highlight of his | ||||||
2 | career; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Bob Stuart was a member of the First Presbyterian | ||||||
4 | Church of Edwardsville for over 50 years; he was a proud member | ||||||
5 | of DeMolay, the Jaycees, and the Rotary, where he was named a | ||||||
6 | Paul Harris Fellows Scholar; he was appointed and served on the | ||||||
7 | YMCA Board and was commissioner for the Edwardsville Fire and | ||||||
8 | Police Commission; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Bob Stuart is survived by his wife of 57 years, | ||||||
10 | Sandy; his two children, Stacy (Randy) Wimmer and Steve (Katie) | ||||||
11 | Stuart; and his grandchildren, Taylor (Jamie) Lockhart, and | ||||||
12 | Dean and Hannah Stuart; therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
15 | Robert Dean Stuart and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
16 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
17 | further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Bob Stuart as an expression of our | ||||||
20 | deepest sympathy.
