SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Liana Hamm of Houston, Texas, who
4passed away on October 19, 2022; and
5 WHEREAS, Liana Hamm was born in Guangxi, China on December
619, 1998 and adopted by Janet Hamm of Jacksonville; she
7attended schools in Austin, Texas and Jacksonville and
8graduated from the K12 International Academy in 2017; she was
9awarded the National Merit Scholarship; she received her
10Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Rice University, graduating
11summa cum laude in 2020, and her Master of Accounting, also
12from Rice, in 2021; she sat for the CPA exam and passed all
13parts on the first try; she received the Elijah Watt Sells
14award for her high scores; and
15 WHEREAS, Liana Hamm had several internships, including in
162018 with OpenStax at Rice University, in 2019 at the Federal
17Reserve Bank of Dallas, and in 2020 at PricewaterhouseCoopers;
18she was also a teaching assistant in Financial Accounting at
19Rice University during 2020; in September of 2021, she began
20full-time employment with PricewaterhouseCoopers as an
21assurance associate; and
22 WHEREAS, Liana Hamm had many interests outside of school

1and employment; she was an accomplished pianist, a member of
2the Anchor Club, a volunteer at Passavant Area Hospital, and
3the secretary for the Republican Women's Club; she
4participated in many extracurricular activities during her
5time at Rice University; she was a lovely and caring young
6woman with a wonderful sense of humor; and
7 WHEREAS, Liana Hamm was preceded in death by her
8grandparents, Bob and Betty Hamm; and
9 WHEREAS, Liana Hamm is survived by her mother; her aunts,
10Barbara (Dan) Lenihan and Nancy (Mike) Miner; and her cousins,
11Brendan, Aaron, Emily, and Walker; therefore, be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Liana Hamm and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
15friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Liana Hamm as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
