SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of James "Jim" R. Rice of Andalusia, who
4passed away on November 20, 2022; and
5 WHEREAS, Jim Rice was born to William and Juanita (Henson)
6Rice in Elderd on May 8, 1940; he served in the U. S. Army from
71962 to 1965; he married Sharon Laing at Red Oak Presbyterian
8Church in Tipton, Iowa on May 21, 1966; and
9 WHEREAS, Jim Rice worked in various capacities for John
10Deere over 35 years, including landscaping and production at
11Harvester Works; he was also a talented handyman and a trained
12locksmith; and
13 WHEREAS, Jim Rice truly enjoyed working outside, tinkering
14with things, golfing, and fishing, as well as his bowling
15league; and
16 WHEREAS, Jim Rice was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church
17in Rock Island for over 50 years; he was very active in his
18church, serving as a deacon, an Awana leader, and a trustee
19over the years; and
20 WHEREAS, Jim Rice was preceded in death by his parents and

1his sisters, Peggy Heedley and Linda Birdsong; and
2 WHEREAS, Jim Rice is survived by his wife; his daughters,
3Karyn (Mike) Fulton and Teresa (Scott) White; his
4grandchildren, Kyle White and Kyra White; and his brother, Ken
5Rice; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8James "Jim" R. Rice and extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Jim Rice as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
