2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Eliza Butler Jones of North Chicago, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on May 5, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Eliza Jones was born in Bernice, Louisiana on | ||||||
6 | March 5, 1924 to Ollie and Rebecca Davis; growing up, she was a | ||||||
7 | member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Bernice; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Eliza Jones moved to Evanston in 1948 and spent | ||||||
9 | many years as a domiciliary worker; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Eliza Jones was a member of the Second Baptist | ||||||
11 | Church, where she was a lead soloist, and later joined | ||||||
12 | Springfield Baptist Church, where she also sang in the choir; | ||||||
13 | in 1976, she moved to North Chicago and joined St. Paul Baptist | ||||||
14 | Church; she later became a member of Christian Valley | ||||||
15 | Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Mother Board | ||||||
16 | and was a devoted giver; and

17 | WHEREAS, Eliza Jones was preceded in death by her father, | ||||||
18 | Ollie Davis; her mother, Rebecca Davis; brother, O.D. Davis; a | ||||||
19 | sister, Linda Fay Kennedy; a niece, Bridget Davis; and 2 | ||||||
20 | nephews, Roderick Davis and Elijah Cooper; and

1 | WHEREAS, Eliza Jones is survived by her 2 sisters, Lena Mae | ||||||
2 | Scott and Audrey H. Nixon; a sister-in-law, Ruthie Davis; and a | ||||||
3 | host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
6 | Eliza Butler Jones, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
7 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
8 | further

9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of Eliza Jones as an expression of our | ||||||
11 | deepest sympathy.
