1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Elmer I. Gramley of Kaneville, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on November 26, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley was born in Aurora to Ben and | ||||||
6 | Frances (Flanders) Gramley on May 18, 1946; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | Kaneland High School in 1964, where he was a member of the | ||||||
8 | Future Farmers of America and made a name for himself as a | ||||||
9 | trumpet player; he attended Iowa State University, where he | ||||||
10 | studied agricultural science; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley returned to Kaneville in 1971 and, | ||||||
12 | alongside his older brother Leon, began tilling the land and | ||||||
13 | tending to the livestock on the family farm; he loved to drive | ||||||
14 | his beloved Peterbilt semi, hauling livestock to, and from, | ||||||
15 | many parts of the country; he married Jan Demitriu in Justice | ||||||
16 | on July 25, 1981; and

17 | WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley was a member of the Kane County Farm | ||||||
18 | Bureau, the National Corn Growers Association, and the National | ||||||
19 | Soybean Association; he served for many years on the Kaneland | ||||||
20 | School Board and was a volunteer fireman for over 30 years, 10 | ||||||
21 | of them as chief; and

1 | WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley always enjoyed having a cold beer in | ||||||
2 | hand and overlooking a pig roast; he finished the Chicago | ||||||
3 | Marathon in 2002; he and his wife enjoyed traveling around the | ||||||
4 | world, taking pictures in front of many of the wonders of the | ||||||
5 | world; their cruise through the Panama Canal was a personal | ||||||
6 | favorite; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
8 | and his brother, Leon Gramley; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Elmer Gramley is survived by his wife of 36 years, | ||||||
10 | Jan; his daughter, Sara Gramley; and numerous nephews, nieces, | ||||||
11 | cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
14 | Elmer I. Gramley, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
15 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
16 | further

17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Elmer Gramley as an expression of | ||||||
19 | our deepest sympathy.
