2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Justice James T. Londrigan of | ||||||
4 | Springfield, who passed away on May 31, 2019; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Justice Londrigan was born to James E. and Sophia | ||||||
6 | (Albright) Londrigan in Springfield on February 23, 1925; he | ||||||
7 | attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Cathedral Boys High School, | ||||||
8 | the University of Illinois, and the City College of New York | ||||||
9 | and then graduated from Chicago-Kent Law School; during his | ||||||
10 | youth, he served as president, vice president, and national | ||||||
11 | committeeman for the Young Democrats of Illinois and the | ||||||
12 | Sangamon County Young Democrats; he married Marilyn J. Brust in | ||||||
13 | 1950; after her death, he married Mary Lane in May of 2016; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Justice Londrigran was a disabled infantry | ||||||
15 | veteran of World War II; he received two Purple Hearts, a | ||||||
16 | Bronze Star, and five Campaign Citations, including one from | ||||||
17 | the Battle of the Bulge; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Justice Londrigan spent most of his career as a | ||||||
19 | member of the law firm of Londrigan and Londrigan; there, he | ||||||
20 | practiced with six other Londrigans, including his father, | ||||||
21 | James, and his son, Timothy; he also served as a Sangamon | ||||||
22 | County Circuit Court Judge, a Special Assistant Attorney |

1 | General, a City Attorney, a Hearing Officer, as Legal Counsel | ||||||
2 | to the State Department of Public Health and Aeronautics, and | ||||||
3 | on the 4th District Appellate Court; most recently, Londrigan | ||||||
4 | served as counsel with the law firm of Wolter, Beeman, Lynch | ||||||
5 | and Londrigan; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Justice Londrigan served eight years as an | ||||||
7 | Illinois State Representative; he sponsored a variety of bills | ||||||
8 | during his tenure, including legislation to keep the Department | ||||||
9 | of Revenue and all State government in Springfield, for the | ||||||
10 | creation of the Sangamon State University Auditorium and for | ||||||
11 | the Homestead Tax Exemption, for the abolishment of personal | ||||||
12 | tax, to lower real estate taxes, to require bicycle safety | ||||||
13 | reflectors, and for Southern Illinois University Medical | ||||||
14 | School; he also helped secure funding for railroad relocation, | ||||||
15 | the Prairie Capital Convention Center, and $10,000,000,00 | ||||||
16 | worth of funding for an underground state parking garage; and

17 | WHEREAS, Justice Londrigan served as head of the Knights of | ||||||
18 | Columbus six point program, where he instituted new programs | ||||||
19 | including scholarship programs for Cathedral High School; he | ||||||
20 | instituted and was president of the Knights of Columbus Credit | ||||||
21 | Union, which later joined with Sacred Heart Credit Union; he | ||||||
22 | served on the board of directors of the Aid to Retired Children | ||||||
23 | and was president and Irishman of the Year of the Sons of Erin; | ||||||
24 | he was a member of the Sangamon County Bar Association, the |

1 | Illinois Bar Association, the D.A.V., the V.F.W., the American | ||||||
2 | Legion, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Knights of | ||||||
3 | Columbus #364, the Elks, the Eagles, the Island Bay Yacht Club, | ||||||
4 | the Sangamo Club, Panther Creek Country Club, the American | ||||||
5 | Business Club, the Illinois Historic Society and Christ the | ||||||
6 | King Church; and

7 | WHEREAS, Justice Londrigan was preceded in death by by his | ||||||
8 | first wife, Marilyn, his parents, and his brother, Robert | ||||||
9 | Londrigan; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Justice Londrigan is survived by his wife, Mary; | ||||||
11 | his daughters, Linda Gillette, Janet (Bob) Kregbaum, Lisa | ||||||
12 | Beene, and Mary Jeanne (Dennis) Weakly; his son, Timothy | ||||||
13 | Londrigan; his grandchildren, Connor and Ciara Londrigan, Luke | ||||||
14 | and Lexie Weakly, and Halle Beene; his great-grandson; and his | ||||||
15 | brother, Paul (Karen) Londrigan; therefore, be it
| ||||||
16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
18 | Justice James T. Londrigan and extend our sincere
condolences | ||||||
19 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be | ||||||
20 | it further
| ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Justice Londrigan as an expression |
