SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Alexandros "Alex" Mantis, who passed away
on December 8, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Alex Mantis was born in Logga, Greece to Penelope
and Grigorios Mantis on June 24, 1924; he married Panagiota
Mantis on May 4, 1952; and
WHEREAS, Alex Mantis lived and worked as a photographer in
Greece until he moved to Waukegan in 1967; he was a proud
employee of Abbott Laboratories; and
WHEREAS, Alex Mantis could be found laughing, socializing,
making wine, spending time with his family, and Greek dancing;
his pride and love for his village of Logga, Greece was
abundant in his life; he would visit often and tend to his vast
olive groves; and
WHEREAS, Alex Mantis was preceded in death by his wife,
Panagiota; his parents; and one brother; and
WHEREAS, Alex Mantis is survived by his children, Greg
(Pam) Mantis and Popi (Angelo) Tzavaras; his grandchildren,
Kosta (Betsy) Tzavaras, Alexi (Amy) Tzavaras, Lena (Paul)

Rosenthal, Alexi Mantis, and Daniel Mantis; and his
great-grandchildren, Penelope and Angelo Tzavaras and Olivia
and Dean Rosenthal; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Alexandros "Alex" Mantis, and extend our sincere condolences to
his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Alex Mantis as an expression of our
deepest sympathy.
