SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Phyllis June Spurney of Sawyerville, who
4passed away on March 15, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Phyllis Spurney was born in Sawyerville to James
6D. Taylor and Alice (Douglass) Taylor on June 30, 1930; she
7married Joseph Spurney Jr., and he preceded her in death on
8April 1, 1996; and
9 WHEREAS, Phyllis Spurney was the manager of the Illinois
10Secretary of State Driver Service Facility in Carlinville; and
11 WHEREAS, Phyllis Spurney previously served as the mayor of
12Sawyerville for 40 years; she was the former chairwoman of the
13Macoupin County Democratic Party; and
14 WHEREAS, Phyllis Spurney was a member of the VFW Ladies
15Auxiliary of Mt. Olive and the United Methodist Church of
16Benld; and
17 WHEREAS, Phyllis Spurney was preceded in death by her
18parents; her spouse; her sons, David Spurney and Daryl Spurney;
19and her sister, Ava Bray; and

1 WHEREAS, Phyllis Spurney is survived by her grandson, David
2J. (Tami Straub, companion) Spurney; her niece, Phyllis Lynn
3(Bray) Fraelle; and her nephew, Jim Bray; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Phyllis June Spurney and extend our sincere condolences to her
7family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
8further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Phyllis Spurney as an expression of
11our deepest sympathy.
