SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Henry Albert "Alby" Plain of Springfield,
4who passed away on April 19, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Alby Plain was born in Springfield to Henry U. and
6Nova Brantley Plain on July 28, 1927; he attended Springfield
7High School and graduated from The Todd School in 1945; he
8served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and graduated from
9the University of Illinois in 1950; he was a varsity baseball
10pitcher while at the University of Illinois and played
11professional baseball for four years in the minor leagues for
12the Chicago Cubs; he married Dolores Hashman in 1953; he
13married Marian McDermott in 2000; and
14 WHEREAS, Alby Plain became a teacher for the Springfield
15School District in 1953 and was an assistant basketball coach
16for Springfield High School when they won the championship in
171959; he was the head basketball coach for Springfield High
18School from 1962 to 1965; he received a master's degree from
19Illinois State University in 1966 and became a counselor at
20Springfield High School; he was the head counselor and
21assistant principal at Springfield High School when he retired
22in 1988; he was also the treasurer of the Springfield Teacher's
23Credit Union for 12 years; and

1 WHEREAS, During the summers from 1958 to 1970, Alby Plain
2and Cliff Tozer ran TP Day Camp for Springfield youth; and
3 WHEREAS, Alby Plain was inducted into the Springfield
4Sports Hall of Fame; he was member of Blessed Sacrament Parish
5and the Sangamo Club and was a past member of the American
6Business Club; he loved to play golf with his friends at The
7Rail; and
8 WHEREAS, Alby Plain was preceded in death by his first
9wife, Dolores; his second wife, Marian; and his brother,
10Richard Brantley Plain; and
11 WHEREAS, Alby Plain is survived by his daughter, Sally
12Marie (Hank) Steining; his son, Henry Albert (Lisa) Plain Jr.;
13his stepchildren, John Richard (Barb) McDermott Jr., Michael
14Edwards "Muggs" (Denise) McDermott, Kevin Neerman McDermott,
15Martha Louise "Cookie" McDermott, Maureen Lynn "Bubby"
16(Travis) Wayne, John Peter McDermott, and Melissa Leigh
17McDermott; his grandchildren, Caitlyn Jane Steining (Jay)
18Wilson, Henry Albert (Jessica) Plain III, and Alexandra Marie
19Plain (Tommy) Carter; and three great-grandchildren;
20therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Henry Albert "Alby" Plain and extend our sincere condolences to
3his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

6presented to the family of Alby Plain as an expression of our
7deepest sympathy.
