SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Edward Preston Gartley Jr., who passed
away on August 23, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Preston Gartley was born in Waukegan to Edward
"Jiggs" and Agnes Budak Gartley on July 21, 1949; he excelled
in academics and was a young thespian, an interest he pursued
as an actor in stage performances during his years at the
University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he met and
later married Mellody Lynn Brummett; and
WHEREAS, Preston Gartley loved music, crossword puzzles,
gardening, and golf; his was a Life Master in Bridge and an
avid fan of the Chicago Cubs; and
WHEREAS, Preston Gartley is survived by his daughter,
Rachel Colleen (Sean) Cusick; Mellody Brummett Gartley
Berlage; his grandson, Rhys; his sisters, Patty Gartley and
Barb Amadei; his brothers, Kevin (Marsha) Gartley and Jeff
(Christine) Gartley; and nine nieces and nephews; therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

Edward Preston Gartley Jr., and extend our sincere condolences
to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Preston Gartley as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
