2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
John Karnezis, who passed away on October | ||||||
4 | 24, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Karnezis was born on July 23, 1966; his | ||||||
6 | parents were the Hon. Themis Karnezis and Charlotte Dolan | ||||||
7 | Karnezis; he married Dena Turnquist in November of 2005; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, John Karnezis attended Christ the King Elementary | ||||||
9 | School and Marist High School; he subsequently attended the | ||||||
10 | University of Illinois in Champaign, where he was a member of | ||||||
11 | the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and an employee of C.O. | ||||||
12 | Daniel's, a popular college bar; after graduating in 1988, he | ||||||
13 | earned his law degree from Loyola Law School; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, John Karnezis began his legal career with the Cook | ||||||
15 | County State's Attorney, where he worked from 1991 until 2000; | ||||||
16 | he then worked for the next 9 years in private practice as a | ||||||
17 | litigator with Clifford Law Offices, advancing from associate | ||||||
18 | to partner during that time; in 2009, Karnezis founded the law | ||||||
19 | firm of Pullano and Karnezis with former assistant state's | ||||||
20 | attorney Richard Pullano; and

21 | WHEREAS, John Karnezis helped create the Law Alumni |

1 | Associates Board of Marist High School and was an adjunct | ||||||
2 | professor for trial advocacy at John Marshall Law School in | ||||||
3 | Chicago; he was also a member of the Chicago Bar Association, | ||||||
4 | the American Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers | ||||||
5 | Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the | ||||||
6 | American Trial Lawyers Association; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, John Karnezis was named as one of the top 40 | ||||||
8 | attorneys under 40 by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and an | ||||||
9 | Illinois "super lawyer" every year from 2005 to 2010; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, John Karnezis was preceded in death by his mother, | ||||||
11 | Charlotte, and his sons, Theodore and Marshall; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John Karnezis is survived by his wife, Dena; his | ||||||
13 | sons, John and Michael; his parents, the Hon. Themis and | ||||||
14 | Melodie; his sisters, Melodie (David) Merrick, Sherrie (David) | ||||||
15 | Lloyd, Doran (Thomas) Sweeney, Carie (Daniel) Frigo, and | ||||||
16 | Tristan (Kevin) Angus; his brothers, Michael (Elizabeth) and | ||||||
17 | Timothy (Grace); and his 18 nieces and nephews; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, John Karnezis will be remembered fondly by all who | ||||||
19 | knew and loved him for his outgoing personality, his infectious | ||||||
20 | laugh, and his kindness to all; therefore, be it
| ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL |

1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
2 | his family and friends, the passing of John Karnezis; and be it | ||||||
3 | further

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of John Karnezis as an expression of | ||||||
6 | our sympathy.
