SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harold E. "Lem" Kaiser of Morton, who
4passed away on July 17, 2015; and
5 WHEREAS, Harold Kaiser was born in Tremont on December 15,
61919 to Benjamin and Anna (nee Plattner) Kaiser; he graduated
7from Tremont High School in 1937; he married Ila Jean Stieglitz
8in February of 1946 in Morton; he farmed for his father until
9leaving for the service in 1942 and served his country in the
10United States Army from 1942 to 1946; he married Helen Jean
11(nee Smith) Merchenthaler on November 10, 1976 in Morton; and
12 WHEREAS, Harold Kaiser worked for the United States Postal
13Service as a rural mail carrier, delivering mail between 1958
14and 1982 in Morton and Tremont; and
15 WHEREAS, Harold Kaiser was an avid golfer who scored a
16hole-in-one 3 different times; he enjoyed searching for morel
17mushrooms in his favorite spots, cooking steak on the grill,
18and eating strawberries and shortcake; he grew sweet corn and
19tomatoes and picked berries; he relished dinners on the
20screened-in porch with his family; he enjoyed traveling to
21Florida, Hawaii, and Cancun, Mexico; he enjoyed ice-skating
22with his daughter, water-skiing with the boys, swimming,

1badminton, and cards with the grandkids; he loved to garden and
2tinker around the house and yard; he was an active member of
3the Morton Apostolic Christian Church; and
4 WHEREAS, Harold Kaiser was preceded in death by his first
5wife, Ila; his brother; and his 5 sisters; and
6 WHEREAS, Harold Kaiser is survived by his wife, Helen; his
74 children, Loren "Lon" (Cindy) Kaiser, Thomas (Lisa) Kaiser,
8Jean (Don) Lashbrook, and Scott (Julie) Kaiser; his brother,
9Orman (Katherine) Kaiser; his 2 sisters-in-law, Verla Leman and
10Wilma Stieglitz; and his 11 grandchildren and 19
11great-grandchildren, including Jeff (Mary) Kaiser, Kim Emery,
12Heather (Ryan) Gray, Joe Williamson, Dawn (Brian) Sharpe, Terah
13(Jason) Allen, Angie (Andy) Ogburn, Weston (Stephanie) Taylor,
14Jesse (Emily) Lashbrook, and Jake and Laura Kaiser; therefore,
15be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Harold E. "Lem" Kaiser, and extend our sincere condolences to
19his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Harold Kaiser as an expression of
