SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Pastor William "Bill" James King of Zion,
4who passed away on September 21, 2017; and
5 WHEREAS, William King was born in Memphis, Tennessee to
6Charles Robert Walls Sr. and Susie Applewhite on October 2,
71950; he had six siblings, Gloria (Damien) Blanchard, Angeline
8Banks, Walter R. Applewhite Jr., Barry (Lorraine) Applewhite,
9and Walterine (Elroy) Applewhite, and he was the oldest; he
10grew up in Memphis with his grandparents, Mason and Florence
11King; he eventually moved to Waukegan and graduated from
12Waukegan Township High School in 1968; upon graduation, he
13attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he
14received a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education; he furthered his
15education at National Louis University, where he received at
16Master of Science in Education Leadership; he later completed
17required coursework at Roosevelt University for his Doctorate
18in Education; he married Pamela D. King on July 20, 1974; and
19 WHEREAS, William King began his career in education as a
20Fine Arts teacher with the Waukegan Community Unit School
21District #60; while with the Waukegan School District, he
22worked as an art teacher, Assistant Principal, Associate
23Principal, and Coordinator of Fine Arts for the entire

1district; he was also employed with the North Chicago Unit
2School District as Dean of Students, Athletic Director,
3Assistant Principal, and Principal; after 36 years in
4education, he retired from the North Chicago Community Unit
5School District #187 as the Principal of Marjorie P. Hart
6Elementary School; and
7 WHEREAS, William King received several awards throughout
8his career, including Who's Who Among America's Teachers; he
9was recognized as a North Shore Art League Scholar, an
10Outstanding Educator by the National Association of University
11Women, and as a Lake County Most Influential Educator; and
12 WHEREAS, William King served as a member on several boards,
13including the Community Coalition United for Education, the
14Illinois Law Advisory, and the Lake County Urban League Board;
15during his time as an educator, he also served as a coach for
16boys track and varsity football; and
17 WHEREAS, William King joined the First Corinthian
18Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Eugene
19Roberson; during his membership, he served as a Deacon,
20Associate Minister, a choir member, and the Superintendent of
21Sunday School; he became an ordained minister and served as a
22member of the North Shore Ministers Alliance; he also served as
23secretary of the New Era District; he was installed as the

1Pastor of Christian Love Missionary Baptist Church; and
2 WHEREAS, William King loved teaching, whether inside a
3classroom or on the field; he found joy in mentoring youth and
4inspiring them to reach their fullest potential; he was an
5artist and loved to create masterpieces; and
6 WHEREAS, William King was preceded in death by his
7grandparents, Mason and Florence King; his aunt and uncle,
8Catherine and Charlie Smith; his uncle, J.B. King; and his
9father-in-law, C.J. Bankston; and
10 WHEREAS, William King is survived by his loving wife,
11Pamela; his children, William (Rochelle) King, Kaliina (Larry)
12Fenner, and Kyle King; his grandchildren, Amani Rochelle King,
13Jalen James Fenner, William C. King II, Nyla Marie Fenner, and
14Malakai Jeremiah Bloom-King; and his many nieces, nephews,
15godchildren, students, and dear friends; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18William "Bill" James King and extend our sincere condolences to
19his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
