SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Linda Jo Thomson of Franklin Park, who
4passed away on July 30, 2017, at the age of 70; and
5 WHEREAS, Linda Jo Thomson was born to Patricia and Joseph
6McCandless on November 10, 1947; and
7 WHEREAS, Linda Jo Thomson was a lifetime member of the
8Franklin Park American Legion organization, where she
9advocated for patriotism and honor, mentored youth, and hosted
10multiple community events; and
11 WHEREAS, Linda Jo Thomson stood behind issues that were
12important to many veterans and worked side-by-side to bring
13awareness to the obstacles veterans face; and
14 WHEREAS, Linda Jo Thomson was a supporter of giving back to
15communities; she dedicated time to hosting events that would
16better her community, a commitment shared by her family,
17including her husband, Paul, who was a Franklin Park
18firefighter for 39 years, her son, Tommy, who is a firefighter
19and served as Village Clerk of Franklin Park from 2009 to 2017,
20and her nephew, Eddie, who also worked as a firefighter and
21later became a representative for the Associated Firefighters

1of Illinois; and
2 WHEREAS, Linda Jo Thomson was a member of the Loyal Order
3of Moose of Marinette, Wisconsin, where she provided a helping
4hand to those in need; and
5 WHEREAS, Linda Jo Thomson expressed the importance of youth
6development by being an advocate for the operation of the
7Mooseheart Child City and School, a school designed for
8children in need; and
9 WHEREAS, Linda Jo Thomson was also an advocate for
10Moosehaven City of Contentment, an active retirement home for
11senior citizens in Orange Park, Florida; and
12 WHEREAS, Linda Jo Thomson enjoyed playing Bingo and taking
13care of her loved ones; and
14 WHEREAS, Linda Jo Thomson was preceded in death by her
15parents and her sisters, Kathy McCandless and Patricia Orner;
16and
17 WHEREAS, Linda Jo Thomson is survived by her husband, Paul
18Thomson; her children, Thomas (Andrea), Michael, and Robert;
19her granddaughter, Monique Thomson; her sister, Nancy
20(Michael) Stevens; and her brother, Joseph McCandless;

2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Linda Jo Thomson, and extend our sincere condolences to her
5family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
6further
7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Linda Jo Thomson as an expression of
9our deepest sympathy.
