SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Richard L. VanderLeest of Colona, who
passed away on January 15, 2020; and
WHEREAS, Richard VanderLeest was born in Denver, Colorado
to Robert and Amelia "Billie" (Foxall) VanderLeest on February
4, 1943; he married Nancy Owens in Ohio, Illinois on September
20, 1970; and
WHEREAS, Richard VanderLeest served in the U.S. Army during
the Vietnam era where he worked as a computer programmer, a
position he held for over 20 years; and
WHEREAS, Richard VanderLeest was a member of the Vietnam
Vets Chapter 299 in the Quad-Cities and the American Legion
Post 1233 in Colona; he was also a Rock Island County Master
Gardener; and
WHEREAS, Richard VanderLeest was preceded in death by his
parents; his sister, Charlotte Morris; and his brother, Robert
VanderLeest; and
WHEREAS, Richard VanderLeest is survived by his wife, Nancy
VanderLeest; his aunt, Ione Brown; his uncle, Harold Horn Jr.;

his brothers-in-law, Harry A. Owens, Jim (Patti) Owens, Jerry
Owens, and Don (Judy) Morris; his sisters-in-law, Donna
(Daniel) Heffernan, Susan (Dave) Moss, and Judy (Kirby) Marine;
and his numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Richard L. VanderLeest and extend our sincere condolences to
his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Richard VanderLeest as an expression
of our deepest sympathy.
