SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of David Alan Hickox of South
4Jacksonville, who passed away on March 24, 2022; and
5 WHEREAS, David Hickox was born in Chicago to Willard D.
6"Sonny" and Joann Powell Hickox on May 30, 1957; he graduated
7from Jacksonville High School in 1975 and married Crystal Wade
8at the Annie Merner Chapel in Jacksonville on August 27, 1977;
9and
10 WHEREAS, David Hickox worked briefly in the dietary
11department at the Jacksonville Developmental Center before
12pursuing his true calling as a public servant; he began his
13career with Superior Ambulance in Jacksonville while joining
14the South Jacksonville Fire Department in 1978; he served as a
15paramedic for Passavant Area Hospital from 1990 to 1997 and
16became chief of the South Jacksonville Fire Department in
171997; he also taught CPR and served as a member of the Virginia
18ambulance and Beardstown fire and ambulance squads; he ended
19his career as a fireman in 2018; and
20 WHEREAS, David Hickox spent time as a courier for FedEx
21from 1998 to 2022; he was a popular visitor to Jacksonville
22area residences and businesses, always arriving with a smile

1and a kind word; his desire to help others carried over to his
2FedEx work as he was known to offer aid to others while
3covering his route; he was awarded the FedEx Humanitarian
4Award in 2002; and
5 WHEREAS, David Hickox was a devoted husband, father,
6grandfather, and friend; he was proud of his children and
7grandchildren and their many accomplishments and successes; he
8enjoyed attending their events and offering encouragement; he
9also enjoyed attending NASCAR races; and
10 WHEREAS, David Hickox was preceded in death by his parents
11and his brother-in-law, Steve; and
12 WHEREAS, David Hickox is survived by his wife, Crystal;
13his children, Jason (Tiffany) Hickox and Cortney (Bobby)
14Bonjean; his grandchildren, Riley, Lily, and Easton Hickox and
15Claire and Tatum Bonjean; his sister, Beverly Hickox Whitton;
16and his brothers, Billy (Denise) and Gary (Jean) Hickox;
17therefore, be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20David Alan Hickox and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
22further
