SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Rev. Janie A. Long of Wonder Lake, who
4passed away on August 31, 2017; and
5 WHEREAS, Rev. Janie was born in Lexington, Alabama to
6Nathan M. and Virgie Estelle (Chandler) Thornton on March 29,
71946; one of 14 children, she was raised on a farm outside of
8Lexington; she married John Alan Carter on June 10, 2006; and
9 WHEREAS, Rev. Janie was a longtime resident of Wonder Lake
10and was pastor of the Wonder Lake Pentecostal Church of God;
11she proudly founded and operated the Wonder Lake Church of God
12Food Pantry; she was active in her ministry in area nursing
13homes, as well as TV ministry on cable and on the Internet,
14primarily with her YouTube broadcasts; and
15 WHEREAS, Rev. Janie was preceded in death by her parents;
16her husband, John; her sisters, Helen (the late Arlon) Stamps
17and Dora (the late Marvin) Clemmons; her brothers, Kenneth (the
18late Addie) Gray, John D. Thornton, Oscar Thornton, G.W. (the
19late Jewel) Thornton, Bobby Thornton, and Robert Thornton; and
20her sister-in-law-, Janice Carter; and
21 WHEREAS, Rev. Janie is survived by her sisters, Lillie (the

1late Kenneth) Crosswhite and Katherine (Donnie) Roach; her
2brothers, James (the late Ora) Thornton, Neal (Milline)
3Thornton, and Richard (Shirley) Thornton; her loving nieces and
4nephews; her special friend, Allen Scott; her daughter, Thresa
5(Chris) Wait; and her grandson, Scott Priebe; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Rev. Janie A. Long, and extend our sincere condolences to her
9family, friends, and those who knew and loved her; and be it
10further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Rev. Janie as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
