SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of John Raymond Peters of Pekin, who
4passed away on March 7, 2024; and
5 WHEREAS, John Peters was born to Max and Mildred Josephine
6(Sutton) Peters in Bloomington on February 27, 1940; he
7married Sandra Marie "Sandy" Oedewaldt in Springfield on
8September 22, 1962; and
9 WHEREAS, John Peters worked for Keystone Steel & Wire for
1044 years before retiring in 2003; and
11 WHEREAS, John Peters served as union president of
12Independent Steel Workers Alliance for 20 years; and
13 WHEREAS, John Peters was a member of Elks Lodge #20 in
14Peoria, the American Legion in Bartonville, and the Knights of
15Columbus in Peoria; he attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in
16Pekin; and
17 WHEREAS, John Peters enjoyed spending time with family,
18golfing, and traveling annually to Fort Myers, Florida and
19Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; he also enjoyed gardening in his
20yard; he was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Los

1Angeles Dodgers; and
2 WHEREAS, John Peters was preceded in death by his parents
3and his brothers, Richard Peters and Raymond Peters; and
4 WHEREAS, John Peters is survived by his wife; his son,
5John Raymond Peters Jr.; his daughters, Jill Marie (Jim)
6Bishop and Sherlyn Rene (Rich) Cleaver; his grandchildren,
7Meagan (Zach MacLachlan) Bishop, Drew (Lauren) Bishop, Madison
8Bishop, Kaitlyn (Kilyan Dougherty) Cleaver, Alyssa (Nick)
9Kraft, and Hayley Cleaver; and his great-grandchildren, Calvin
10Bishop, Rowan Dougherty, and Quinn Dougherty; therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13John Raymond Peters and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
