1		SENATE RESOLUTION
2		WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3		learn of the death of Nikola "Nick" Kovacevic of Grayslake, who
4		passed away on November 1, 2019; and
5		WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic was born to Frank and Amanda
6		(Vrkljan) Kovacevic in 1927 in the small village of Vranik,
7		Lika-Senj County, Croatia; he grew up on the family farm with
8		his parents and siblings; after mandatory service in the JNA
9		Army, he fled to Austria; after locating long lost relatives in
10		the U.S., he immigrated to America in 1959; and
11		WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic met fellow Croatian immigrant
12		Marija "Mary" Bobic at a Baptism celebration hosted by mutual
13		friends; they married in April of 1968 and settled in North
14		Chicago, eventually moving to Grayslake; and
15		WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic retired from Abbott Laboratories
16		in 1991 with over 30 years of service; he and his wife worked
17		tirelessly at their jobs and at an apartment building they
18		purchased to make a better life for themselves and their two
19		children; and
20		WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic loved his vegetable garden, often
21		sharing the tomatoes and peppers with friends and neighbors; he

1		was a long-standing member of the American Croatian Waukegan
2		Tamburitzans and Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 848, where he
3		served as lodge secretary for many years; and
4		WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic was preceded in death by his wife,
5		Marija; and
6		WHEREAS, Nick Kovacevic is survived by his son, John
7		Kovacevic; his daughter, Mary Kovacevic (Scott Beam); his
8		grandson, Robert Nicholas; his sisters, Marija (Robert)
9		Asbille and Kata Sikic; and many nieces and nephews; therefore,
10		be it
11		RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
12		ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13		Nikola "Nick" Kovacevic and extend our sincere condolences to
14		his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15		further
16		RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17		presented to the family of Nick Kovacevic as an expression of
18		our deepest sympathy.
