| 1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, All aspects of transportation in the State of | ||||||
| 3 | Illinois and throughout the United States are in need of | ||||||
| 4 | serious infrastructure improvements; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Passenger rail and freight transportation has | ||||||
| 6 | become a topic of serious debate when it comes to the | ||||||
| 7 | conditions of railroad tracks and bridges on which trains | ||||||
| 8 | travel; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, It is of utter importance that the State of | ||||||
| 10 | Illinois and the United States strive to improve the | ||||||
| 11 | infrastructure on which these trains travel; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, With the infrastructure of railroad tracks and | ||||||
| 13 | bridges needing repair, it is necessary to identify the tracks | ||||||
| 14 | and bridges that are in serious need of repair so that | ||||||
| 15 | construction can be done to ensure the safety of passengers and | ||||||
| 16 | travel of freight trains; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
| 18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that there is created the | ||||||
| 19 | Task Force on Railroad and Bridge Infrastructure, consisting of | ||||||
| 20 | members appointed as follows: the President of the Illinois | ||||||
| 21 | Senate or his or her designee; the Minority Leader of the | ||||||

| 1 | Illinois Senate or his or her designee; the Illinois Secretary | ||||||
| 2 | of Transportation or his or her designee; the Executive | ||||||
| 3 | Director of the Regional Transportation Authority or his or her | ||||||
| 4 | designee; the Chairman of the Chicago Transit Board or his or | ||||||
| 5 | her designee; the Chairman of Metra or his or her designee; and | ||||||
| 6 | a member representing freight rail service to be appointed by | ||||||
| 7 | the chair of the task force; and be it further
| ||||||
| 8 | RESOLVED, That the Task Force can appoint members as it | ||||||
| 9 | determines to serve as representatives of passenger and freight | ||||||
| 10 | transportation entities or other concerned parties; the Task | ||||||
| 11 | Force may request assistance from any entity necessary or | ||||||
| 12 | useful for the performance of its duties; and be it further
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall conduct in-depth | ||||||
| 14 | research to identify the railroad tracks and bridges that are | ||||||
| 15 | in need of repair so that the necessary infrastructure repairs | ||||||
| 16 | can be done; and be it further
| ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Secretary of Transportation | ||||||
| 18 | shall serve as the chair of the Task Force; the Task Force | ||||||
| 19 | shall meet at the call of the chair; the members of the Task | ||||||
| 20 | Force shall serve without compensation; and be it further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
| 22 | shall provide staffing support to the Task Force and shall | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | administer and prepare all reports deemed necessary in | ||||||
| 2 | conjunction with the Task Force; and be it further
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall issue a report with its | ||||||
| 4 | recommendations to the members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 5 | Representatives on or before December 31, 2013.
