SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable,
3often disabling, disease of the central nervous system that
4disrupts the flow of information between an individual's body
5and brain; and
6 WHEREAS, MS affects an estimated 2.5 million people
7worldwide, 400,000 in the United States, and 20,000 in the
8State of Illinois; and
9 WHEREAS, MS is the most common neurological disease leading
10to disability in young adults; it is often first diagnosed in
11individuals aged 20-50; and
12 WHEREAS, The National MS Society is an organization
13dedicated to funding cutting-edge research, advocating on
14behalf of people with the disorder, and facilitating programs
15and services that help those with MS and their families; and
16 WHEREAS, In March of 2012, the National MS Society will
17sponsor MS Awareness Month for the City of Chicago; Chicago
18building owners will support the observance of MS Awareness
19month by lighting their ceilings or entryways with orange
20illumination; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate March of
32012 as MS Awareness Month in the State of Illinois and
4encourage the people of this State to recognize the important
5efforts of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to diagnose,
6treat, and manage this disorder; and be it further
7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as a
9symbol of our esteem and respect.
