| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Dolores Alma Johnson, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | June 10, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dolores Johnson was born in Chicago
to William and | ||||||
6 | Alma Nails on June 11, 1931; she later moved to Robins with her | ||||||
7 | parents, where she met her future husband, Elbert "Zip" | ||||||
8 | Johnson; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dolores Johnson had a special place in her heart | ||||||
10 | for her community; her character, temperament, and | ||||||
11 | determination were best displayed when she enrolled in Chicago | ||||||
12 | State University and spent the next 10 years raising a family | ||||||
13 | full time and attending the university part-time; she | ||||||
14 | successfully obtained her degree in education and became an | ||||||
15 | educator; she was always pleasant and graceful to everyone she | ||||||
16 | met and worked with; and

17 | WHEREAS, Dolores Johnson was an active member of Saint | ||||||
18 | Sabina Church for over 50 years, where she was active on many | ||||||
19 | of the church's boards and committees; she was also part of her | ||||||
20 | block's book club and served on the board of Neighborhood | ||||||
21 | Housing Services of Chicago; and

1 | WHEREAS, Dolores Johnson loved tennis, swimming, | ||||||
2 | traveling, gardening, and taking care of her family; she | ||||||
3 | sacrificed her needs for the good of her family, always putting | ||||||
4 | them first above anything else; she will be remembered as being | ||||||
5 | a selfless, altruistic wife and mother who always had a smile | ||||||
6 | on her face; she also enjoyed having tea and visiting with | ||||||
7 | friends; she was always outdoors on a beautiful summer day and | ||||||
8 | was always easy to find working in her beautiful garden; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dolores Johnson was as beautiful as the flowers | ||||||
10 | that she loved so well and her influence will forever remain in | ||||||
11 | the lives of all who knew her; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Dolores Johnson was preceded in death by her | ||||||
13 | husband, Elbert; her children, Stephen, Marie, and Regina; two | ||||||
14 | grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Dolores Johnson is survived by her children, | ||||||
16 | Kenneth (Sabrina), Victoria, Elbert (Verna), Paul (Valerie), | ||||||
17 | Paula, Marva, Harold (Rhonda), and David; 16 grandchildren; her | ||||||
18 | great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and | ||||||
19 | friends; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
22 | Dolores Alma Johnson, and extend our sincere condolences to her |

1 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
2 | further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of Dolores Johnson as an expression of | ||||||
