SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
to learn of the death of Matthew W. "Matt" Williams of Moline,
who passed away on September 29, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Matt Williams was born in Moline to Michael and
Ronita (Johnson) Williams on January 7, 1968; he graduated
from United Township High School in 1986 and married Sheli
VanTieghem in Omaha, Nebraska on February 14, 1990; and
WHEREAS, Matt Williams served in the U.S. Army and worked
at the U.S. Army Headquarters Tank-Automotive and Armaments
Command in Warren, Michigan; he previously worked at the Rock
Island Arsenal, retiring from the U.S. Army after 21 years of
service; and
WHEREAS, Matt Williams enjoyed golfing and was an avid
sports fan, including the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs; and
WHEREAS, Matt Williams is survived by his children, Hayden
Williams, Brandon Williams, and Matison (Caleb) Williams; his
granddaughter, Brooklynn; his mother, Ronita Duncan; his
father, Michael (Nancy) Williams; his sisters, Norma (Rick)
Williams, Sammy Williams, and Mandy Williams; his brothers,
Neal (Angela) Williams, Mike (Teri) Williams Jr., and Shaun

(Sarah) Williams; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews;
and his companion, Dawn Porter; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Matthew W. "Matt" Williams and extend our sincere condolences
to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Matt Williams as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
