| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of James H. "Jim" Shaw of Moline, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on May 3, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, James Shaw was born in Chariton, Iowa to John and | ||||||
6 | Zulma (Lanning) Shaw on December 1, 1931; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | Grinnell High School in 1949 and served in Korea in the United | ||||||
8 | States Army; he married Patricia Pieper in Grinnell, Iowa on | ||||||
9 | July 7, 1951 and earned his degree in accounting from the | ||||||
10 | University of Iowa in 1957; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, James Shaw worked at Deere & Company as the | ||||||
12 | manager in the Export Order Department from 1957 until his | ||||||
13 | retirement in 1986; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, James Shaw was involved in numerous church and | ||||||
15 | social efforts which included the Catholic Family Movement, | ||||||
16 | Sacred Heart Catechism teacher and lector, Special Persons | ||||||
17 | Encounter Christ (SPEC) co-founder, a charter board member of | ||||||
18 | the Cursillio and Bible studies, and a Catholic Social Services | ||||||
19 | board member; he was the president and a 16-year board member | ||||||
20 | of the National Association for Retarded Citizens (NARC) and | ||||||
21 | the first president of the 708 Mental Health board; he was the | ||||||
22 | Quad City Ostomy Association newsletter editor and was active |

1 | in Rock Island County Republican politics; he was also a | ||||||
2 | charter member of the John Deere Toastmasters and helped many | ||||||
3 | of the residents of the Shaw Accessible Condominium complex | ||||||
4 | with their maintenance; and

5 | WHEREAS, James Shaw enjoyed dancing, reading, camping, | ||||||
6 | traveling in his recreational vehicle, and spending time with | ||||||
7 | his children and grandchildren; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, James Shaw was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
9 | and his twin sister, Joan Shaw Lindenmayer; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, James Shaw is survived by his wife of 65 years, | ||||||
11 | Patricia; his children, David Shaw, Randy (Susan) Shaw, LuAnn | ||||||
12 | Kellums (John Riley), Sam (Ann) Shaw, Nancy (Darrell) Bush, | ||||||
13 | Jane Shaw, and Sara Shaw (Mike Pierson); his grandchildren, | ||||||
14 | Nathan, Emily, Amanda, Randall, Lindy, Rachael, John, | ||||||
15 | Christina, Alyssa, and Ryan; five great-grandchildren; and his | ||||||
16 | brothers, John (Mary) and Vance Shaw; therefore, be it
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | James H. "Jim" Shaw, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
21 | further
