SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Robert "Rob" Amling of Tower Hill, who
passed away on May 29, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Rob Amling was born in Pana to Martin and Jean
(Alde) Amling on June 6, 1950; he graduated from Pana High
School in 1968 and received his Bachelor of Science in
Horticulture in 1972 from the University of Illinois; he
married Debbie DeRochi in the First Presbyterian Church in
Taylorville on October 27, 1979; and
WHEREAS, Rob Amling was a commercial horticulturist; he was
the owner and operator of the Cold Springs Greenhouse in rural
Tower Hill since 1973; he opened the Junction Garden Center in
Pana in 1986, running both businesses with his wife; and
WHEREAS, Rob Amling was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran
Church in Pana, where he served as president and as an elder;
he served on the Tower Hill Fire Protection District Board of
Trustees, the Pana Community Hospital Board of Directors, the
Pana Community Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, the Pana
Area Chamber of Commerce (President), the Christian County
Economic Development Board, and the University of Illinois
Dudley Smith Farm Advisory Board; he also served as Cold Spring

Township Supervisor; and
WHEREAS, Rob Amling was involved in the formation of
Tri-County Quail Unlimited; most recently, he served on the
Shelby County Board, the Shelby County Housing Authority Board,
the Shelby County Republican Central Committee, and the Shelby
County Economic Development Board; he was a member of the
Kaskaskia Watershed Association and chairman of the Heartland
Resource Conservation and Development Council; and
WHEREAS, Rob Amling was preceded in death by his parents;
and
WHEREAS, Rob Amling is survived by his wife, Debbie; his
daughter, Stacie (Glenn) Sherman; his grandson, Aiden Sherman;
his siblings, Christine (Lynn) Bishop, Jennifer Young, and
Carol (Dwight) Vasel; and several aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Robert "Rob" Amling and extend our sincere condolences to his
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
