SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert "Rob" Amling of Tower Hill, who
4passed away on May 29, 2019; and
5 WHEREAS, Rob Amling was born in Pana to Martin and Jean
6(Alde) Amling on June 6, 1950; he graduated from Pana High
7School in 1968 and received his Bachelor of Science in
8Horticulture in 1972 from the University of Illinois; he
9married Debbie DeRochi in the First Presbyterian Church in
10Taylorville on October 27, 1979; and
11 WHEREAS, Rob Amling was a commercial horticulturist; he was
12the owner and operator of the Cold Springs Greenhouse in rural
13Tower Hill since 1973; he opened the Junction Garden Center in
14Pana in 1986, running both businesses with his wife; and
15 WHEREAS, Rob Amling was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran
16Church in Pana, where he served as president and as an elder;
17he served on the Tower Hill Fire Protection District Board of
18Trustees, the Pana Community Hospital Board of Directors, the
19Pana Community Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, the Pana
20Area Chamber of Commerce (President), the Christian County
21Economic Development Board, and the University of Illinois
22Dudley Smith Farm Advisory Board; he also served as Cold Spring

1Township Supervisor; and
2 WHEREAS, Rob Amling was involved in the formation of
3Tri-County Quail Unlimited; most recently, he served on the
4Shelby County Board, the Shelby County Housing Authority Board,
5the Shelby County Republican Central Committee, and the Shelby
6County Economic Development Board; he was a member of the
7Kaskaskia Watershed Association and chairman of the Heartland
8Resource Conservation and Development Council; and
9 WHEREAS, Rob Amling was preceded in death by his parents;
10and
11 WHEREAS, Rob Amling is survived by his wife, Debbie; his
12daughter, Stacie (Glenn) Sherman; his grandson, Aiden Sherman;
13his siblings, Christine (Lynn) Bishop, Jennifer Young, and
14Carol (Dwight) Vasel; and several aunts, uncles, nieces,
15nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Robert "Rob" Amling and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
