SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of William L. "Bill" Boyd of
4Chesterfield, Missouri, formerly of Springfield, who passed
5away on February 7, 2021; and
6 WHEREAS, Bill Boyd was born in Coshocton, Ohio to Lester
7and Opal King Boyd on January 11, 1931; he married Carolyn Ida
8Emig in Gahanna, Ohio on July 31, 1955; he served in the U.S.
9Navy during the Korean War as a corpsman and was proud of
10circumnavigating the earth aboard the USS Worcester; he earned
11his bachelor's degree from Capital University in Columbus,
12Ohio and his master's degree in healthcare administration from
13The University of Chicago; and
14 WHEREAS, Bill Boyd retired as vice president of Memorial
15Medical Center in 1992 after 35 years; he oversaw numerous
16building projects in campus expansion, served as interim
17president, and supported the creation of the Southern Illinois
18University School of Medicine; and
19 WHEREAS, Bill Boyd was a longtime member of Christ
20Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and managed
21the building and grounds; he was active in the Episcopal
22Diocese, Boy Scout Troop 7, and Downtown Springfield, Inc.,

1where he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009; he
2especially enjoyed serving as executive director of the
3Festival of Trees for many years; he played in several bagpipe
4bands, including Springfield's St. Andrew's Society Pipes and
5Drums; he was a long-standing official with the Illini
6Striders Track and Field team; he was a devoted husband and
7father; and
8 WHEREAS, Bill Boyd was preceded in death by his wife,
9Carolyn; his parents; and his brother, Dr. Richard A. Boyd;
10and
11 WHEREAS, Bill Boyd is survived by his children, Craig
12(Louann) Boyd, Keith (Peggy) Boyd, Leslie (Simon) Abrahms, and
13Kent Boyd; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and
14his sister, Leann Boyd Smith; therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17William L. "Bill" Boyd and extend our sincere condolences to
18his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Bill Boyd as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
