2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Ronald "Ron" L. Selph of Granite City, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on April 10, 2017; and | ||||||
5 | |||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Ronald Selph was born in Granite City to Roby and | ||||||
7 | Lucille (Gordon) Selph on July 13, 1946; he graduated from | ||||||
8 | Granite City High School in 1964 and from McKendree College in | ||||||
9 | 1978; he joined the United States Coast Guard after high school | ||||||
10 | and after serving his country he married Karen W. Whittaker; | ||||||
11 | and

12 | WHEREAS, Ronald Selph had a 20-year successful career as a | ||||||
13 | police officer; he then served two years with the United States | ||||||
14 | Marshal Service and taught criminal justice classes at | ||||||
15 | Belleville Area College for 17 years; he was elected Mayor of | ||||||
16 | Granite City In 1993; he considered his time as Mayor to be his | ||||||
17 | greatest accomplishment and was honored to serve in that | ||||||
18 | position for the next 12 years until his retirement; and

19 | WHEREAS, Ronald Selph enjoyed serving his community in any | ||||||
20 | capacity and said it was "the people" he enjoyed the most; he | ||||||
21 | loved to fish, golf, and spend time with his family, it was his | ||||||
22 | favorite pastime after retirement; and

1 | WHEREAS, Ronald Selph was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
2 | and his wife, Karen W. Whittaker; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Ronald Selph is survived by his children, Terri L. | ||||||
4 | (Tito) Selph-Tamez, Ronald W. (Lea Anne) Selph; his five | ||||||
5 | grandchildren, Karen Robbins, Austin Weaver, Tanner Selph, | ||||||
6 | Shaelyn Selph, and Presley Selph; his great-grandchild, Rylee | ||||||
7 | L. Hubbard; his eight siblings, Judie Cor, Kathy (Jim) Robins, | ||||||
8 | Debbie (Ron) Reeves, Jackie Ortiz, Sally Strong, Danny (Laurie) | ||||||
9 | Selph, John (Tammy) Selph, and Craig (Barbara) Selph; his | ||||||
10 | twenty-three nieces and nephews, and many other extended family | ||||||
11 | and friends; therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
14 | Ronald "Ron" L. Selph, and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
15 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
16 | further

17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Ronald Selph as an expression of our | ||||||
19 | deepest sympathy.
