| 2 | WHEREAS, Brent Paterson has served as the interim vice | ||||||
| 3 | president of Student Affairs, the senior associate vice | ||||||
| 4 | president for Student Affairs, and the chief of staff at | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois State University; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Brent Paterson is retiring after years of service | ||||||
| 7 | at Illinois State University; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Brent Paterson has been described as having the | ||||||
| 9 | students' needs at the forefront of his decisions and as being | ||||||
| 10 | committed to doing whatever he can to enhance the college | ||||||
| 11 | experience of his staff; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, After spending 17 years in student affairs at | ||||||
| 13 | Texas A&M University, Brent Paterson joined Illinois State | ||||||
| 14 | University as associated vice president for Student Affairs in | ||||||
| 15 | 2001; he had oversight of the Bone Student Center, Braden | ||||||
| 16 | Auditorium, Campus Dining Services, Campus Recreation, the | ||||||
| 17 | Student Fitness Center, University Housing Services, and | ||||||
| 18 | University Police; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Brent Paterson has also served as a clinical | ||||||
| 20 | assistant professor in Educational Foundations and | ||||||
| 21 | Administration, teaching in the master's program; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Brent Paterson worked to build a campus life | ||||||
| 2 | focused on student engagement, inclusion, and pride in | ||||||
| 3 | Illinois State University; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Brent Paterson holds a Ph.D. in higher education | ||||||
| 5 | administration from the University of Denver, a master's | ||||||
| 6 | degree in counseling from the University of Memphis, and a | ||||||
| 7 | bachelor's degree in education from Lambuth College in | ||||||
| 8 | Jackson, Tennessee; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, In 2011, Brent Paterson received Illinois State's | ||||||
| 10 | Neal R. Gamsky Award in recognition of his outstanding | ||||||
| 11 | contributions to the quality of life for students; therefore, | ||||||
| 12 | be it

| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
| 14 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare June 30, | ||||||
| 15 | 2021 to be Brent Paterson Day in order to commemorate his | ||||||
| 16 | accomplishments and acknowledge his years of work in higher | ||||||
| 17 | education, especially at Illinois State University; and be it | ||||||
| 18 | further

| 19 | RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to | ||||||
| 20 | Brent Paterson as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
