SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Mildred Bentley, who passed away on
4December 17, 2018 at the age of 92; and
5 WHEREAS, Mildred Bentley was born in Louisville, Kentucky
6on September 9, 1921; in 1968, she moved to Chicago to be near
7her daughter; in 1980, she moved in with her daughter,
8son-in-law, and their two children, while working during the
9week as a live-in companion; and
10 WHEREAS, Mildred Bentley was a caregiver all of her life;
11she cared for her mother until her death and was a trusted
12companion to those with physical problems, proudly saying into
13her 80s that she "took care of old people"; she considered her
14job to be a ministry; and
15 WHEREAS, Mildred Bentley loved to read, especially
16mysteries and books on living the Christian life; she
17particularly enjoyed the novels of Beverly Lewis, such as The
18Amish Country Crossroads series; like the stories of the "Plain
19People", she exuded trusted peace or a peaceful trust as a
20"simply extraordinary woman"; and
21 WHEREAS, Mildred Bentley enjoyed the pastime of

1needlework, including knitting and crocheting; she made
2sweaters with intricate designs, affixing personalized tags
3that read "Made Especially for You by Mildred Bentley"; and
4 WHEREAS, Mildred Bentley was the mother of Sheryl (Dean)
5Oder; the grandmother of Elizabeth and Michael Oder; and the
6sister of the late Edmund (Mary Ann) Robinson; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Mildred Bentley and extend our sincere condolences to her
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
11further
12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Mildred Bentley as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
