SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Martin D. Sutherland of Springfield, who
4passed away on December 16, 2014; and
5 WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland was born in Chicago on May 11,
61950 to Marshall and Mildred (nee Westbrook) Sutherland; he
7graduated from Hillsboro High School and received his
8bachelor's degree from Sangamon State University; he served in
9the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1971 during the
10Vietnam War; he married Pam Rosentreter on February 15, 1969 in
11Hillsboro and they renewed their vows on February 14, 2009 in
12Moorea in the South Pacific; and
13 WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland worked for the State of Illinois
14for 43 years in a variety of departments, retiring in 2014 from
15the Department of Children and Family Services; and
16 WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland served as the Board President
17for Planned Parenthood in Springfield; he was a member of the
18local golf league and the Macoupin Club; he enjoyed fishing,
19golfing, and traveling, especially to Tahiti; he was a master
20woodworker; and
21 WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland was preceded in death by his

1parents and his brother, Marshall Sutherland, Jr.; and
2 WHEREAS, Martin Sutherland is survived by his wife of 45
3years, Pam Sutherland; his father-in-law, Norman Rosentreter;
4several family members including, Sam Faggetti and Melanie and
5Ryan Turner and their children, Marley and Darian; his
6siblings, Marsha and Elia Tabri and Mark Sutherland; his
7sisters-in-law, Mary (Lyndal) Herschelman, Janet Rosentreter,
8and Norma (Bill) Plowman; his brother-in-law, Andy (Dawn)
9Rosentreter; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats,
10Thomas, Barticus, and Jackson Brown; therefore, be it
11 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Martin D. Sutherland, and extend our sincere condolences to his
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Martin Sutherland as an expression
18of our deepest sympathy.
