1		SENATE RESOLUTION
2		WHEREAS, Over 100 million operations and procedures are
3		performed every year with anesthesia, and physician
4		anesthesiologists play a critical role, before, during, and
5		after procedures, making patient safety their top priority;
6		and
7		WHEREAS, Anesthesia is safer than ever before, but there
8		always is a potential for complications and side effects;
9		physician anesthesiologists have the training and expertise to
10		help minimize risks, monitor for any problems, and take quick
11		action; and
12		WHEREAS, When seconds count and when emergencies or
13		complications occur unexpectedly, physician anesthesiologists
14		draw on their extensive medical education and years of
15		clinical training and experience to make critical decisions
16		that save lives; and
17		WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are committed to high
18		quality and safe patient care and to educating patients to
19		make their anesthesia even safer, to reduce risk of
20		complication, and to improve recovery from surgery; and
21		WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are recognized

1		leaders uniquely suited to prevent opioid abuse and misuse by
2		employing opioid-minimizing techniques while ensuring patients
3		have access to appropriate pain treatments; therefore, be it
4		RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
5		ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare January 31
6		through February 6, 2021 as Physician Anesthesiologists Week
7		in the State of Illinois and ask all citizens to join us in
8		recognizing physician anesthesiologists, who have developed
9		the techniques and protocols that have greatly improved the
10		safety of anesthesiology and the well-being of surgical
11		patients each day; and be it further
12		RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13		presented to the Illinois Society of Anesthesiologists as a
14		symbol of our respect and esteem.
