1 | AN ACT concerning transportation.
| ||||||
2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, | ||||||
3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||||
4 | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding | ||||||
5 | Section 3-699.15 as follows:
| ||||||
6 | (625 ILCS 5/3-699.15 new) | ||||||
7 | Sec. 3-699.15. Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm | ||||||
8 | license plates. | ||||||
9 | (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an
application made in | ||||||
10 | the form prescribed by the Secretary, may
issue special | ||||||
11 | registration plates designated as Operation Desert | ||||||
12 | Shield/Desert Storm license plates to any Illinois resident who | ||||||
13 | has earned the Southwest Asia Service Medal from the United | ||||||
14 | States Armed Forces. The special plates issued under
this | ||||||
15 | Section may be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first
| ||||||
16 | division, motorcycles, or motor vehicles of the second division | ||||||
17 | weighing not more
than
8,000 pounds. Plates issued under this | ||||||
18 | Section shall expire according to the staggered multi-year | ||||||
19 | procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this Code. | ||||||
20 | (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be | ||||||
21 | wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. Appropriate | ||||||
22 | documentation, as
determined by the Secretary, and the | ||||||
23 | appropriate registration
fee shall accompany the application. |

1 | The Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates | ||||||
2 | to be issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance | ||||||
3 | with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required | ||||||
4 | to designate "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) | ||||||
5 | of Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall, in his or | ||||||
6 | her discretion, approve and prescribe stickers or decals as | ||||||
7 | provided under Section 3-412.

8 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon | ||||||
9 | becoming law.
