SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
15 ILCS 5/2 new

Amends the Governor Succession Act. 1 AN ACT concerning State government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Governor Succession Act is amended by adding
5 Section 2 as follows:
6 (15 ILCS 5/2 new)
7 Sec. 2. Gubernatorial compensation. The Governor shall
8 receive no State compensation, including salary and any other
9 benefits, for any period on or after the effective date of this
10 amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly during which the
11 powers and duties of the office of Governor are exercised and
12 discharged by the officer next in the line of succession under
13 the operation of subsection (c) of Section 6 of Article V of
14 the Illinois Constitution due to the pendency of a criminal
15 charge against or indictment of the Governor. Operation of this
16 Section does not create a claim for compensation not received,
17 whether or not the Governor resumed the exercise and discharge
18 of the powers and duties of the office of Governor.
19 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
20 becoming law.
